Received in concert to enormous success, their expressive strength and inventive mastery of form gave Haydn's international reputation a substantial boost. Sir Colin Davis's affinity for Haydn's music was legendary. During his Indian summer with the London Symphony Orchestra, he recorded both Die Schopfung and Die Jahreszeiten. These symphonies were recorded during this same period, and offer yet another example of Davis's consummate artistry.
