"Now, this is interesting. Morgan Harris is a bassist, percussionist, guitarist and keyboardist (in about that order), and he spends most of his time on this album creating a guitar-bass-drums approximation of dark, illbient hip-hop.

Here's what the press material calls the result: "A strange, Ill-clectic blend of Hip-Hop, Psychedelic Rock, Freaky Beats, and Electro-Organic Aesthetics." Okay. The notes also say that everything here was recorded "live; no sampling or sequencing." I'll buy that, too, except for the track on which Harris plays guitar, bass and drums simultaneously.

It's not bad stuff; track II (gimmick alert: there are no song titles, only track numbers) lays trashy retro guitar over slow, funky drums, sort of like a cross between Hendrix and Massive Attack. On tracks VII and X there are raps by Bashton and True Jamie Michelle, while Harris moves to keyboard and the drummer gets more wicked without getting any faster. And track XII moves into a sort of dubbed-up free jazz territory with the addition of trumpeter Daniel Carter. Worth hearing."
