5 Stars

"There is no question that HIDDEN is a reverential nod in the direction of Horowitz and Wild. Nevertherless, the way in which, McArthur plays the Barcarolle and the stunning opening of Where Beauty Dwells suggests that he has returned to music of the 19th Century and completely encompasses the pieces. I first heard the album on the radio in California and was completely captivated by Arioso. One of the best recordings I have ever heard of the piece and I have since listened to it, time and time again. This album goes well with a loved one and a glass of wine, but equally would do well if you were on your own. The solo piano album always has an 'after hours' feel to it and this is no exception: the way in which the listener is offered a warm pair of slippers and a comfortable chair in front of an open fire should not to be passed up. Great music, superbly played and recorded. The piano sound and the acoustic mastering of the cd are phenomenal. This is the sort of recording you will find yourself returning to over and over again; it will send you to sleep for the all the right reasons."

"Hidden is one of those CD's that lives with you. Until now my favourite recording had been one of Trevor Pinnock's but McArthur's new recording transcends it in every way. The piano sounds exactly right, the tempi are thoughtful but totally convincing, I have never heard the inner parts emerge with such clarity and authority. In two months this has become one of my favourite CDs: it is one of the very few I've ever heard which still astonishes me every time I listen to it."
I love this recording John.

"I was just looking over what others are saying about your playing. There are some really nice reviews. A couple low lifes, but no one pays any attention to them anyway. You are a great musician. I really respect you. I hope, as I develop my own skill, to resemble you in some small way. It would be an honor.Looking forward to hearing you in New York!"
