CD Reviews

Very good Mahler

"Chailly understands Mahler well and so do Royal Concertgebouw (and Boulez). This is a great disk with beutiful, detaild music as it should be and it has wonderful singing too.If you like to know what Mahler is about try this one because it is one of Mahlers more "easy" symphonies and if you already are fammiliar with him... buy it anyway. Chailly and Boulez is my Mahler guys and it has something to do with thier understanding about Mahler as a modernist guy but "cold"? Forget it.Bergs seven songs is more than a "filler"."
A wonderful CD

"The Concertgebouw sound is stunningly captured and the orchestra is stylish and full of color. Barbara Bonney is sensational in the last movement and is for me the highlight of this disk. The innocence is perfectly caught. I dare say that there has been too many dull American recordings of Mahler 4 - this is truly magical. The Berg coupling is more romantic than atonal and could hardly be played more persuasively. Guaranteed to give pleasure."
