CD Reviews

Elegant and Romantic
R. Jennings | 11/23/2002

"I am going to use this cd for my wedding. Canon in D by Pachelbel is beautiful. I wanted classical music, but felt it might be too formal for my casual outdoor wedding. Having the music played by guitar gave me the best of both."
Does not sound like classical guitar

"This sounds like it was played using a pick, or using thumb and index finger. The notes seem disconnected and not very smooth. The two last peices (Recurerdos... and Malaguena) sound good enough though. As I listened to this, I could not help but wonder how it was recorded (is almost sounds like duets on some peices). I wish I knew who recorded this."
Imaginative treatment of some familiar classics

"If you are a classical guitarist, or just a classical music phile, this is a great CD. It is fairly difficult to find some of these pieces played on guitar, and the transcriptions are thoughtful and refreshing. Beyond the scope of it being music to listen to during aromatherapy, driving, and weddings (see other reviews), there are some very impressive tracks on here. I especially like Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 20, which indeed is played as a duet (or otherwise two tracks), but also a thoughtful variation on the themes of the original piece as opposed to a strict transcription. A such, it would have been impossible to play on one guitar on one track. I think the comment that this unknown performer's work is amateurish can be dismissed by simply listening to how smoothly the tremolo in Recuerdos de la Alhambra is played. Don't give buying this CD a second thought--it's well worth the money."
