Other Collections Are Better

"This collection is now out of stock, and may never be back in stock because there are better collections available for the same price. For those of you who know Grand Funk, aka Grand Funk Railroad, you know the music you are going to get. "We're an American Band" is class Grand Funk, rocking music in the tradition of groups like Steppenwolf and Rare Earth. Those were the days. "Loco-Motion" is a rocking remake of Little Eva's 1962 hit, and proved that old music could be a new hit with a hard-driving guitar arrangement."Shinin' On" has to be one of my favorite Grand Funk songs. The guitar intro into the deep, shouted vocals are early precursors to today's thrash rock vocals, though the anger is significantly toned down from today's thrash rock. There have been complaints by many that Grand Funk was too commercial, and at least one of the members of the group had a bad reputation for being arrogant. People sometimes focus too much on what others say rather than deciding for themselves. As some of these hits indicate, Grand Funk had their own style, they played it well, and they created some wonderful, hard rocking music. The downside of this CD is that there aren't many songs on it, and one of my other Grand Funk songs, "I'm Your Captain", isn't on it. There are now several other collections of Grand Funk music that I doubt we'll see this one again, and that's probably as it should be. No complaints about the music that's here, there just isn't enough. Go find one of the more encompassing collections and pass this one by."
