CD Reviews

Best Combined Single for your Money
P. Neumann | Boston, MA | 06/25/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"With the US single postponed (or cancelled), this is the best import version to pick up. It's the European release (not the UK Pt 3) which combines most of the tracks from all of the UK parts (missing are Ewan Pearson Odyssey mix and FK Disco Dub found on UK CD2). Now on to the tracks themselves, the new single version is nicely pumped up. The Serge remix is very good. It separates elements of the original mix and adds a modified bassline. FK-EK is 90's style remix - good but feels dated. From here things get more adventurous, DFA remix of 'Slide In' is the full 13 minute remix. It has an oddball/playful feel to it. Not what I expected but I liked it. It's mostly instrumental. Mum turns '#1' into a short child-like melody which completely works. So you get two conventional remixes and two more experimental remixes - a nice balance. Two videos are also included : a live London performance which is fantastic (although it was already included on the US DVD of Supernature), and an European behind-the-scenes tour video which is very nice! Both make you wish that Goldfrapp would tour the US ASAP! Lastly, the promotional video for the the song itself isn't included here. It's on the next single (Fly Me Away). Overall, a very good single."
