Commissioned by the Pacific Symphony and premiered in 2006 during the opening of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, Philip Glass' large scale 45 minute oratorio The Passion of Ramakrishna is a passion play and a tribute to 19th Century Indian spiritual leader Sri Ramakrishna. The work is written for soloists, chorus, and large orchestra. The forces here on this world premiere recording are led by Glass champion maestro Carl St.Clair leading soloists Christoperen Numura, Janice Chandler Eteme, Kevin Deas, I-Chin Feinblatt, Nicholas Preston, and the voices of the Pacific Chorale under the direction of John Alexander.
