"I recently had my old vinyl record transferred to cd by a friend.

Now I see the cd sold at Amazon.com for 50 dollars, an astronomic prize! There are few cds I would pay that prize for, but this is actually one of them. There are dozens of hit compilations of Gladys&the Pips, but few feature the marvels on this cd. Soul music doesn't get any better than this, period!

(Well, exclamation point). Gladys in top form and performing the

right kind* of songs is simply unbeatable, and that's happening on the first five tracks. If I'm forced to choose my favorite track, I'd say "And this is love". It literally drives me to tears. If you're at all inclined to good old 70's R&B, get your hands on this record! It improves the quality of life.



*One can sense Gladys superb voice on all the songs she does, but the type of music or back up band (too slow, too much violins) are not always

optimal. The same goes for Aretha Franklin: Gorgeous voice but

she's seldom (less than Gladys) given the right material and instrumental back up(non sophisticated 60's fare). Imagine Aretha singing to the sound of Ashford&Simpson or Barry White..

What a shame.
