Synopsis

Album Description
There can never be enough recordings of this beloved opera, and this rare one from Radio Italy in 1965 highlights not only the fine tenor Gianfranco Cecchele, little remembered today, but also the fascinating soprano "Anna de Cavalieri"--who was actually Anne McKnight, a native of Aurora, Illinois who made her career mostly in Italy under an assumed name! She was a very popular artist there in the 1950s and '60s.

"Suddenly in the last year a whole host of recordings from the 1950's and 1960's broadcast on Italian radio from various Italian opera houses in Rome and elsewhere are appearing on CD for sale such as this magnificent recording of "Turandot". Anna also recorded Busoni's version as well and available. de Calalieri is very much alive, sharp as a tack, and working on an autobiography in Lugano, Switzerland!
