CD Reviews

Pleasant performance of Gershwin classics
Gontroppo | Bathurst, NSW Australia | 04/15/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a very pleasing recording, with fine performances. It may not be the best ever recording of these Gershwin pieces, but it is a very good budget-priced set, with helpful, interesting liner notes.I knocked off a star, because the clarinet glissando is definitely not the most exciting rendition of that important opening to Rhapsody in Blue.Kathryn Selby shows an affinity for this genre, but is also comfortable with traditional classical concertos, and chamber music."
A Soulless Performance
Steven Davis | Rowlett, Texas USA | 04/16/2003
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Gershwin is one composer you absolutely cannot perform to the beat of a metronome, but that is what this recording brings to mind. The tempo is precise and painfully lifeless. This CD is a rare disappointment from Naxos."
The best I have heard !
Gontroppo | 11/24/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have listened to a few other CD's of Gershwin music but this one beats them all, in my opinion. I recently bought the one with Andre Previn, and I was very disappointed, I just can't get used to it, it simply doesn't click with me, I don't "feel" Gershwin's music like I do with this one. Kathryn Selby is absolutely fantastic, she plays Gerswhin beautifully. I highly recommend that CD to every Gershwin fan!"
