You can't really listen to Gene without comparing him to Morrissey - his sound is hardly original or distinguishing. The overall mood of this album, however, is like Morrissey took some uppers and finally smiled before getting in front of a microphone. If you like retro 80s alternative, this album certainly should be in your collection even though this album came out 15 years ago, and it is still listenable 15 years later.

"Gene's lyrics are ecstatically profound and well versed. "Car That Sped" was a great empowering song- " You got to do it on your own, I can't help you anymore..." "London, Can you wait?" reverberates echoes of great songwriting bands like The Smith and Suede.
I have listen to this CD over and over again. I have not gotten tired of it yet. Their words are still true today."
