CD Reviews

One can do a WHOLE LOT better with Sinatra purchases
Ken McGlashan | 06/10/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"There are two fundamental problems with this box set: 1. These recordings are not his original versions of these songs. 2. No Sinatra box set of merely three CDs is adequate, unless you are not serious about The Chairman. Because this is Frank we're talking about, this still gets three stars."
Frank deserves better

"This is yet another mixed up jumble of recordings. Something else to make money , It belittles Sinatra, I wonder if any of the Sinatra production team would have sanctioned this. Sorry not for me."
You can do much better with other collections

"One of the reasons I hesitate to pay a lot for cd's is this three cd collection. The song list sounded great. What a mistake. The "Rat Pack" cd contains standard Dean, Frank, and Sammy Rat Pack stuff.According to Stan Britts' "Sinatra:A Celebration" none of the songs, with the exception of the first one or two on the "Greatest Hits" cd's were ever recorded for any label by Sinatra. They seem to be have been taken from "To Be Perfectly Frank" a radio show by Sinatra that ran from 1953 to 1955. The cd's were digitally remastered but the sound quality is exceptionally poor. The Sinatra estate needs to reconsider some of the junk that is being released. If you are a hardcore Sinatra junkie the fact that these are rare songs may appeal to you. If you just love Sinatra like I do, spend about a little more money and buy the four disc "Capital Years". You won't regret it and there is not a miss on it. ..."
