CD Reviews

Not treading water
Ted Smith | 12/01/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Not as fast or as rocking as "Grand Parade", this new one has more mellow songs but almost all lead up to F&Ws patented soaring choruses. A few songs employ dance beats to suprisingly good affect. Interestingly, the singer's accent, unnoticeable on previous records, is quite pronounced on many of the songs here. All in all, it's a great but different album by one of the most unjustly ignored bands out there. Nice to see they're not just treading water."
Truly Special Album
Ted Smith | Portland, OR | 02/02/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Powerful melodies and choruses punctuate these beautifly-written songs with a passion that is rarely heard. The last 1/4 of the CD is impeccable and the first third is merely great. If you're not looking to do any break-dancing and you appreciate a superbly-crafted song that grows on you each time you hear it - buy this album."

"Just when I was asking whatever happened to these guys, they come up with this. Another talented Irish band. Takes a couple of listens to really appreciate this as a whole. But then it'll hit you. This would be amongst my desert island discs. Favourite tracks are Take Me Through this Life and Time We Said Goodnight. Live they are superb, and the nicest/funniest group you could meet in the world. What other bands respond to fans emails in person. One of the best albums of 1999."
