The Best Live Foghat Commercially Available
Satan Lives In My Bowels | 12/11/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I truly believe I was born about twenty three years too late. During my days in Junior High school when everyone listened to those whiny, leaden grunge bands people thought I was strange because I wanted to rock. I had no interest in the local "alternative" radio station (which was the most corporate and mainstream definition of alternative I ever heard). So instead I was forced to borrow CDs from my brother and slowly build my own collection of bands who were fun to listen to and actually knew how to play a solo on the electric guitar. And so the collection grew and grew. Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Golden Earring, Boston... All gave their best tours and live performances in the 70s before I was born. What I would give to have been a teen in the 70s rather than the 90s. It wasn't until high school I discovered FOGHAT! They quickly shot into my top five favorite bands. They were tight, blues based, badass rock 'n' rollers. Sure, some of the great 70s bands are still on the road for me to see live today, but almost none of them still play as well, or they're no longer playing stadium venues, or both. Foghat is such a case. They're still great now (as evidenced by their fine ROADCASES CD) but they were doubtlessly better in the 70s.This KING BISCUIT CD is valuable to anyone who likes Foghat, but especially to fans who never got to see them in their prime. Unlike their other 70s concert album LIVE, this one is satisfying because it was not limited to the constraints of an LP. The older LIVE had only six songs on it because of the time constraints of vinyl. This new release has nine live cuts and one studio bonus track ("Leavin' Again (Again!)" A remarkable improvement over the original version of this song). The recording quality of this album is quite good for concerts from over twenty years ago and in many ways is better than the sound on LIVE.This is the best of their three live albums (I have 'em all). It's a shame, however, that no one thought to seek out and include versions of "Maybelline," "Stone Blue," and a few other Foghat concert favorites for this album which are unavailable elsewhere (except possibly bootleg). Still, the obligatory "Fool For The City," "Slow Ride," and "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" are all scorching here. The first two are easily the best live versions of those songs out there, but the beauty of this album is every song is a winner. Hey, maybe these guys will hit it big again with a new studio album, and maybe guitarist Rod Price will decide to join them on the ensuing stadium tour (he works with them only in the studio now while another guy plays on tour), but until that day when cow poop smells good I think that King Biscuit's Foghat disc is going to have to suffice."
Awesome stuff. Slow Ride alone makes it worthwhile.

"Foghat's King Biscuit Flower Hour release should definitely be anyone's live Foghat CD of choice. It's an awesome show, and the band is on fire. The highlights of this CD are awesome, killer versions of Slow Ride and I Just Want To Make Love To You, both clocking in at over ten minutes. Rod Price's slide guitar on these songs is just amazing. Sound quality is very good and there are informative liner notes. This is definitely worth owning for fans of the group or hard rock/blues rock in general."

"Nobody boogies like Foghat. This disc recorded partly in Philly in 76 shows Foghat at their peak during the Fool For The City tour when they were THE concert draw in the US. Flat out whistle clean thundermugs....this cd eats like a meal!! This cd belongs in your car this summer."
