CD Reviews

Flipp - self-titled (Hollywood Records)
Mike Reed | USA | 09/15/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"What ever happened to this novelty-grunge band? I remember this self-titled CD by Flipp - aren't they the band that wanted to release this CD with a Who cover of a sedate version of "My Generation" and Pete Townsend flatly refused to give them permission to even release it? Believe they played the song during their live sets just to spite Townsend. Tunes here I found most inspiring were "I Wish I Was A Planet", "Another Boring Day", "Schizo Boy", "Slag" and the rocking "Half A Brain". Line-up: Rynn Arens-guitar & vocals, Freaky Useless-bass, Bennett Salvey-organ and Kilo Bale-drums. To picture what Flipp is like onstage, try to imagine Cheap Trick on a off-night with Johnny Rotten as the guest frontman. Sounds smashing, doesn't it? Might appeal to fans of Less Than Jakes, Groovie Ghoulies and Johhny Socko."
Glam bam rock n roll

"what are you waiting for. rock n roll has been re-invented by one of the most under-rated bands in rock history. this cd is one for all cool people with real ear buds to buy and say i discovered a band with real balls to the wall sound. its like cheap trick meets the sex pistols, and oh yeah, all you alex harvey fans climb aboard for the rock n roll sensation. its sad that the radio does not reconize this band. its sound is a bang for a little buck, and a glam punk sound that wont let you down."

"I've liked Flipp since I first saw their video for The Who's "My Generation" on Modern Rock Live. I thought they had promise, and this CD shows that they do deliver. In a slightly bizzare, cracked way.Now if only I had half a brain..."
