"I find it really shocking that several years after release, still no one has reviewed this. I guess that I am the first one. It also does not seem to be available any longer from Amazon directly, just affiliated merchants. Tragic. This is one of he best Flesh Eaters albums since FOREVER CAME TODAY back in 1982. A really great cross between the more relentless, hard-driving Flesh Eaters and Chris D.'s other group from the eighties, the more melodic, sometimes country-blues-influenced The Divine Horsemen. In fact, Julie Christensen who was the co-vocalist in that band is one of the back-up singers here and also does spine-chilling duets on two of the songs ("Azami" and "Before I Die"). There is some truly great hard rock, pop & blues-inflected/old-seventies style punk here, especially songs like "Miss Muerte" (one of Chris D.'s best, most-classic tunes ever!), "Silver", "Azami" and "Violent Lullaby". Plus check out some of the guitar solos on tunes like "Blonde Cobra", "Violent Lullaby" and "Before I Die" -- over-the-top blast furnace licks that recall a hybrid of Stooges-era James Williamson, MC5's Fred Smith & Wayne Kramer and Sex Pistols-era Steve Jones. If you like early 1980s Flesh Eaters you will like this. Stronger than their early-1990s releases, DRAGSTRIP RIOT and SEX DIARY OF MR. VAMPIRE (2 albums that were good but not great). It also has the phenomenal kind of songwriting found on their 1999 release, ASHES OF TIME, but far better production. Hearing MISS MUERTE also made me pick up Chris D.'s first low budget movie as director I PASS FOR HUMAN (it has Flesh Eaters songs "Miss Muerte" and "Azami" on that soundtrack as well as cool other stuff by The Birthday Party, Lydia Lunch and Thirlwell of Foetus) and it is well worth a look."
