Synopsis

Album Description
2007 album from The Police guitar ace, in a unique collaboration with highly acclaimed classical guitarist Ben Verdery. Released as the reformed Police embark on a high profile world tour with heavy international media and press coverage. Summer's guitar playing was always at the musical heart of The Police, and when the band split up in the mid 80's, he went off to make music outside of the Rock mainstream. This album is further proof of his wide ranging talents. Recorded in collaboration with Ben Verdery, First You Build A Cloud perfectly illustrates both their innovative and eclectic musical careers. Rare.

Andy's Best Duo Album, on a Par With His Best Solo Albums
R. M. Manoharan | 09/22/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is Andy's best duet album and right up there with his best solo albums.

Andy plays some of the best leads and solos he has ever played on record.

I love all the tracks, but my definite favorites are:

First You Build a Cloud -- classic Andy atmospherics in the vein of his Fripp collaborations (I Advance Masked, Bewitched), Mysterious Barricades, and The Golden Wire.

Fez -- great fretboard frenzy recalling his solos on Innocence Falls Prey (Charming Snakes) and Tonight at Noon (Peggy's Blue Skylight).

Love in the Time of -- this is a unique fusion melody the likes of which I haven't heard Andy play before.

Throughout the album, Andy demonstrates that he is a guitarist like no other, and the very last tones of the album show a power and force not evidenced in his underrated work with The Police (at least in the old days) and provide proof that few, if any, other guitarists come close.

P.S.: Ben Verdery is an outstanding guitarist as well, and his classical playing is a perfect counterpoint and complement to, and springboard for, Andy's jazz/rock improvisation.

P.S.S.: For those who sell Andy short on his collaborations with Fripp, listen to the albums Charming Snakes, Synaesthesia, and First You Build a Cloud. This should give them second thoughts about who played what on the albums I Advance Masked and Bewitched.
