The Dutchess Rules
Dawnelle Salant | Fernie, B.C., Canada | 09/29/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Although it was many years in the making, Fergie has created a musical masterpiece with her solo debut. Her powerful voice shines through on ballads such as Finally, and this display of her talent will stop those critics that say she can't sing dead in their tracks. But a whole CD full of ballads wouldn't do Fergie's personality justice. The girl's got it, and she flaunts it relentlessly on the catchy Fergalicious. The BEP's influence is apparent on songs such as Here I Come and Glamorous. Old school fans of Fergie's from her Wild Orchid Days will recognize their influence on songs such as All That I Got and Losing My Ground.

And just when you feel comfortable in Fergie's usual genres, she throws a fresh take on reggae and dub music in Voodoo Doll and Mary Jane Shoes. Each track is a chapter in the story of Fergie, and it's a diverse story.

Big Girls Don't Cry is the surprise gem of the disc. A slow love song that every girl can relate to, Fergie reaches straight into the heart of anyone who's ever been in love. And I'm definitely in love, with The Dutchess!"
