Synopsis

Album Description
"A clear, ringing, effortlessly natural quality." -- CLASSICS TODAY Recorded live at The Sixteen's Handel in Oxford Festival, 2006, Elin Manahan Thomas gives a performance of captivating communication and sparkling intelligence in these stunning and contrasting Handel cantatas, bringing to life the world of four women, all of whom have been betrayed by love and its deceitful charms. One of Wales's leading young sopranos, Elin Manahan Thomas first received great acclaim for her `Pie Jesu' on an award-winning recording of the Rutter Requiem, and was most recently praised as soloist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion at Cadogan Hall and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. This year will see her be the first soprano ever to record Bach's Alles mit Gott, a birthday ode written in 1713 and discovered in 2005 in Weimar. Early on, she won a choral scholarship to Clare College, Cambridge, with whose famous choir she was a regular soloist on their many CDs, on tours, and also on their BBC Radio 3 Evensong broadcasts.
