THE GREATEST THERE HAS EVER BEEN OR THAT THERE WILL EVER BE!
Jesse A. Meade | 08/04/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This box set is the culmination of all of humanity's eons of trials and tribulations. It is the ultimate reward for every hardship that man, woman, and child has contended with since the dawn of creation. If we had never gone to the moon, harnessed the power of the atom, or unraveled the complexity of the human genome, all of our attempts at self betterment would have been validated by this collection of music alone. It is unecessary to say that it's the greatest thing that American music has ever produced. It is unecessary to say that is the greatest thing that any music has ever produced. It is, quite simply, the greatest accomplishment, in any field, by anyone, anywhere, ever.

I don't recall paying as much as it's going for here(I think I got mine from a company in Canada for about $80.00) but can you put a price on the most fantastic gift ever bestowed upon mankind? Of course not. Get this. Get it now. Every moment that passes without knowing the glory that resides on these discs is a moment wasted.

8 Discs - each one a classic

"This is not the run-of-the-mill chronological compilation: we have alternate takes, long versions, alternate versions, studio chat, on over 200 songs - not a clunker in there! And very little *sameness* when you get down to it - with Fats at the keys and lead muke, and Dave Bartholomew leading the band, and in most cases, producing, you know there's gonna be surprise motifs abounding.

Some distortion, hiss - after all, thr span is 1949 to 1962, on the original tracks.

Follow each Disca and follow how Rock and Roll came about. Yes, the self-proclaimed King of R & R, Little Richard, acknowledges Fats as his main man, as he came into "Tutti Frutti".

Fats combined blues and dixieland in a syncopated boogie - it was different. Besides the innovations, he just might be the first "cross-over" artist with "Goin' Home" in 1952. "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" (by Lloyd Price - with Fats on piano!) came next; then Bill Haley with "Crazy, Man, Crazy"...get the picture?

Somewhere in early 1955, we go from light R & B to heavy R & R. Then the "hits jus' kept on comin'" - many, many million sellers.

This collection is so extensive that even the deepest fan might hear tracks he/she possibly heard once, if at all.

Another plus is the booklet - a real seessionography included!"

"I dither around- what's the best music ever made since 1950- The Band (early), The Everly Brothers, The Beatles? I still don't know, but the happiest, cheerfullest music I've ever heard is from this box set. One great song after another, nothing wasted- some songs are only 1:30 long. New Orleans has produced so much good music, but I think this is the best. Maybe this is the one set of music I couldn't live without. Pure joy. I don't think any human being from any culture could fail to love this music."
