Synopsis

Album Description
Franz Liszt was without doubt one of the most colorful musician personalities of his day. As an instrumental virtuoso celebrated throughout all of Europe-only to be compared with Paganini - Liszt fundamentally revolutionized piano playing techniques and as such became the founding father of modern piano playing. This comprehensive compilation of Liszt`s works features a whole series of top-class pianists-including Wladimir Horowitz, Arthur Rubinstein, Alfred Brendel, Claudio Arrau and Gy"rgy Cziffra. The recordings were made between 1932 and 1994 and as such provide an interesting insight into the interpretation history of the works. World-class orchestras like the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the "Wiener Symphoniker" and the Philharmonic Orchestra present the Hungarian composer`s orchestral works. In addition to both "Piano Concertos" and symphonic poems like Tasso and "Les Pr,ludes", the "Faust Symphony" - one of the most important symphonic works of the nineteenth century - can also be enjoyed on this compilation.
