CD Reviews

An excellent, tasty, star-studded CD from a rising talent
Thomas Kipp, Jr | Santa Ana CA | 10/29/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"With this album, recorded for GRP in '91, Eric shows that he has truly mastered the genre of what some like to call "FM jazz". The tunes are written by Eric, Jeff Lorber, Alec Milstein, Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip, and Scott Cross, some very respected names in this business. Most are collaborations of two or more of the above. Likewise, the performers Eric pulls together for the various cuts are a world class roll call: Lorber on synth & guitar, John Patitucci on electric bass, Milstein on bass, Oliver Leiber on guitar, Ferrante on keyboards & synth, Haslip on bass, John Robinson on drums, Alex Acuna on percussion, Robben Ford on guitar, vocals by "Perri" and Ma Chun, with Eric playing alto & soprano sax. A class act all around. The groups are so solid and Eric plays so smoothly and effortlessly it sounds almost easy. You don't think about the tremendous talent and the years of hard work and "wood-shedding" represented. Yet, as with other pop sax phenoms like Kenny G and Sanborn, it's tempting for a musician to think of what Eric could do if challenged beyond the slick, comfy commercial realm of this and later CDs, even including his recent Cannonball tribute, "Walk Tall"."
Too much programme sound

"The Elektric band's still my most favorite band ever, and Eric is a member of this great band.I bought this cd almost immediately upon its release. Eric is a great player, however i in this recording too much Programming feel and drums machine. I had since given away the cd."
Relaxing....

"I really love this cd by Eric Marienthal. It reminds me of the good times in my life. There are few titles that I can really say this about but, trust me you will love this one."
