Not one of his better albums

"Elvis should never have attempted "Hey Jude." He sounds like he's straining and he gets the words wrong, repeating the same stanzas over and over again! Dreadful! But, there are a few gems on this album that redeem it. Elvis does a great version of Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain" as well as "Help Me Make it Through the Night." Unfortunately, the rest of the album is largely forgettable. If you want a good representation from the 70's, try one of the later greatest hits packages or if you're looking for individual items, try "Today," "Promised Land" or "Moody Blue"."

"Released in 1972 this is a grab-bag album that collects some of Elvis 1970/71 Nashville recordings. For the ones who care deeply about Elvis music this album has some interest, especially because it feauteres a few interesting songs that are difficult to find in other collections. For the ones who have an interest on Elvis Gospel/Contenporary Cristian music recordings this album will offer you " Miracle of the Rosary " and "Put your hand in the hand ", however if you apreciate Elvis country/folk recordings you will find in here a beautiful rendition of " Early Mornig Rain " and the energectic recording of " I was born 10.000 years ago ", and althoug the ballads are not particulary briliant both " Silvia " and " We can make the Morning " constitute good efforts. So if you are an Elvis fan you will not be wasting your money if you buy this album."
An overlooked 70?s jewel

"An extremely strong album, which can stand up to any of Elvis? finest 70?s works (yes, including ?Today? and ?Elvis Country?). Perhaps, not a treat for those, expecting mid-50?s-Sun-sessions sound, yet a great collection of at least 8 solid hits (out of 10), overshadowing any 1960?s album (except ?Elvis is Back? and the 1969 Memphis Sessions). The album cannot boast any inner integrity, because the songs are too diverse, but putting it on any time of the day sets you in a real sing-along mood. The only explicit weak point, in my opinion, is ?Hey Jude? ? too relaxed and loused up by Elvis? not being able to remember the lyrics. But the other songs easily overshadow this flaw: country-influenced ?Help Me Make It through the Night? (perhaps not as good as the one done by Engelbert, but still quite enjoyable), ?Early Morning Rain? and ?I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago? ? all three could have easily been placed on ?Elvis Country?. The gospels ? ?Miracle Of The Rosary? and ?Put Your Hand In The Hand? are among the best I?ve ever heard, outshining the whole ?He Touched Me? album. The ballads ? ?Until It's Time for You to Go? and ?We Can Make the Morning? are just brilliant, the latter in its emotional intensity and message reaching the heights of ?In the Ghetto?. But the real masterpiece of the album is ?Sylvia?, taken from the June 1970 Nashville sessions, - three minutes and sixteen seconds of bliss, making the album worth having for anyone, to whom Elvis? music is more than just ?30 Number 1 Hits?.
