CD Reviews

Decent song selection, good remastering
Jim Richmond | 12/31/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"As this was my first batch of songs from the group to get on CD, I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality and amount of music included.

This is authenticly remastered, i.e. they actually took the time to get as best a sound as possible, despite this including recordings going back to 1969. Even the songs from the early 1970's have a decent punch to them. Apparently European quality in engineering helped here.

The first disc represents singles the band released. Not that any of the songs would be familiar in the US, but they represent the songs most widely distributed in the world.

The second disc represents other songs that the band considered important. "Ebbtide" is actually "From the End Till the Beginning" (too bad the real song wasn't included). Overall, the song selection could have been a lot better, but it's not too big of a complaint.

The third disc is listed as a "bonus" and mainly is singer Jerney Kaagman solo material, and several songs from the band's final album (Phoenix).

The music reflects the bands shift over the years from their rocky late 60's roots, to progressive rock, to more mainstream (and sometimes Abba-ish) poppier later songs.

Although the liner notes aren't too extensive, the CD packaging is fairly nice. Overall, this is a good representation of the band's music in a good package with remastered sound. Some great songs are missing, but this is still a good representation for most people.
