Synopsis

Amazon.com
This is a rather gentle performance of Dvorák's most tersely argued, dramatic symphony, and while it's very beautifully played and recorded, it's not a first recommendation. With this same orchestra, Václav Neumann on Supraphon (at mid-price) makes a far more immediate impression. And yet it would be wrong to say that there is any lack of conviction or commitment from either the players or the conductor. If you know this work well and want an interesting second viewpoint, then this may be the disc for you, particularly as the coupling is very good too. If you're new to the Seventh, then go for Neumann, Szell, Davis, or Bernstein. --David Hurwitz

First choice
Joseph Hughes | 04/03/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This must be a first choice for this symphony now, along with Szell and Mackerras versions. The symphony is performed with sympathy, understanding and care, and the orchestral playing is very good indeed."
