FRANCK with FLUTE...
Sébastien Melmoth | Hôtel d'Alsace, PARIS | 12/04/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is it: the disc featuring Franck's wonderful sonata--for violin and piano--hauntingly realized with flute instead. The substitution of flute for violin in chamber pieces is not an unusual thing, as the soprano tessitura of the flute can realize the violin's lines without transposition. I find Franck's sonata with flute preferrable to violin. [25 mins.]

Doubleplus bonus: Schubert's variations on "Trockne Blumen" from his song-cycle The Beautiful Mill-maid. This is one of Schubert's late works (as recognized by the high Deutsche listing--D. 802); yet unfortunately it's too infrequently heard and not well known. [20 mins.]

Good eastern European label Hungaroton."
