Synopsis

Amazon.com
Doug Cameron is a very versatile violinist who is adept at practically every style of music from jazz to classical to pop. On Celtic Crossroads he uses his eclectic influences as the starting point for some imaginative settings for this collection of old Irish tunes, original compositions, and modern songs. Cameron is at his best when he avoids the electronic fusion of tracks like "Dublin Groove" and "Reel Around the Sun (Cameron Hip-Hip Version)" and sticks to a more acoustic sound. Selections like "Drowsie Maggie" and "The Jig Set" show that he has a real flair for lively dance tunes, and would be a welcome visitor to any pub session. And on "Heart of Ireland" he proves he can milk a sentimental melody with the best of them. Although this is supposed to be a Celtic collection it does include versions of some contemporary pop songs, including Sarah Brightman's "Time to Say Goodbye" and the theme song from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On," which features synthesized whale calls, an odd choice of sound for a song from a movie about a sunken ship. Celtic Crossroads features a mix of styles including Latin, jazz, and pop, but when Cameron just hunkers down and plays it straight, he shows real flashes of Irish spirit. --Michael Simmons

Absolutely The Best Album I Have Ever Heard!
04/30/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've never really been interested in fiddle music even though I am an Irish Dancer. I went onto iTunes trying to find one of the songs we dance to called The Mummer's Dance. Many options came up and I decided to click on Cameron's version. I completely and 100% fell in love with it! I decided to check out his other songs and became totally obsessed with his cd. It's not pure fiddle or irish music, it's like everyday anybody can listen to it kind of music. I have never heard of him before and now...I'M HIS BIGGEST FAN!!!"
Absolutely Great

"I hadn't heard of Doug before this purchase (cd was playing at [a store] and I absolutely had to have it). Doug's music lifts the mind and spirit. In this cd he has taken a blend from Riverdance, The Corrs, Enya, Titanic, Lorena McKennitt and has done a splended rendition of all. This cd will get your feet moving (even if you are sitting in your car during rush hour traffic in the Chicago suburbs). A definate must have to your Celtic collection.

A remarkably lovely recording...

"As one who loves Celtic music, I was thoroughly delighted with this album. Doug Cameron is a marvelous fiddler/violinist. I had never heard any of his music prior to the purchase of this CD. The performances, the arrangements, the musicians are first-rate. Doug performs the music of many great artists: Enya, Loreena McKennitt, The Corrs, Celine Dion, Andreas Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. 'Time to Say Goodbye', as arranged by Doug, becomes thoroughly Celtic, and along with 'My Heart Will Go On', are among the most beautiful instrumental arrangements of these songs.Doug wrote 'John Jr.' as a tribute to JFK, Jr. It is a gorgeous piece produced by David Foster. By the way, 'Time to Say Goodbye' and 'My Heart Will Go On' were performed on a Stradivarius violin that was made in 1714!Kudos to Doug Cameron and the Higher Octave team for this beautiful Celtic-inspired recording. Highly recommended."
