CD Reviews

Great CD of Doris Day
Nao | JAPAN | 05/24/2007

"I hear "Fly Me to the Moon" of Doris many times, it is wonderful.

I became a great fan from the ordinary fan of Doris with this music.

Much other good music is recorded. I recommend buying this CD by all means. I shared why many people became her fan a little."
Doris Day twinkles and shines--BRAVO, DORIS DAY !!!

"Doris Day entertained millions of people over the years; and it's no wonder when you hear her voice. She had a voice that was as clear as a bell; and her sophisticated phrasing enhanced her performances even more. This CD is a wonderful album for fans of Doris Day; we get twenty-six amazing songs and the quality of the sound is quite good.

"Move Over Darling" starts the album with Doris singing beautifully; the background chorus is great but Doris never really needed backup--she could easily perform much, much better than just any old songbird. "Secret Love" is very well done and I like the sound of that harp; and there's yet another gem in "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)" which Doris frequently performed with so much panache. "Lullaby of Broadway" has a jazzy flavor to it; and "Love Me or Leave Me" has Doris squarely in the spotlight--and that's quite all right by me!

Other stunning numbers include "It's Magic;" "Everybody Loves a Lover;" "Dream a Little Dream of Me" with that lush musical arrangement; the upbeat sounding "Pillow Talk;" "Cheek to Cheek" with Doris never letting go of a single superfluous note; "Fly Me to the Moon" with another excellent musical arrangement to accompany Doris as she sings this very sweetly; the jazzy "Close Your Eyes;" "Quiet Night of Quiet Stars" with Doris handling tempo and key changes like the pro she always was; "Night and Day" with Doris really opening up to make this very special; "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "Pennies from Heaven."

"Over the Rainbow" has Doris again in her natural element; I would like to think Judy Garland would have approved of Doris' rendition of this classic ballad! Doris also sings rarely heard opening lyrics to "Over the Rainbow." "I'll Never Stop Loving You" is equally well done; and "If I Give My Heart to You" charms me with its natural beauty--and how's about that music to go with Doris' singing?

"Bewitched" shines brightly in Doris' capable hands; and "Very Precious Love" makes good use of the strings as Doris sings this to perfection--and beyond! "Black Hills of Dakota" has a country flavor to it that works wonders for the number; and "Teacher's Pet" is sweet, to say the least! "Makin' Whoopee" is a classic tune that Doris sings faultlessly; and "Ready, Willing and Able" has an excellent rhythm as Doris does this one up right! The album ends with Doris Day performing "Sentimental Journey;" and if you like Doris Day this will leave you wanting more!

Doris Day fans will cherish this album for years to come; and it's even a good CD for newcomers just discovering the magical artistry of the great Doris Day. People who enjoy classic pop vocals will also want this for their collections."
