Very Good Sampler For Things To Come

"I got this one when it came out and heard it is going out of print, well seems that all this material is out except the Bakersfield performances and figure that is the next release. As for comments on the Matrix tapes, got those years ago and they are pretty darn good (not just that single CD version available on Amazon) but the 3 CD version, back to this sampler of "Live" material. Funny how during the bands heyday they released a terrible live album "Absolutely Live" and years later all this really good material finally sees the light of day. Highly recommended sampler if your not interested in the full set of the albums these performances are from as of now.

"Way back in 2002, I was busy haunting one of my favorite Record Stores, {remember those?} in San Francisco, when the guy behind the counter says: "Hey man, you want a free CD?" Free CD? I'm your guy! He hands me this Disc called: "Bright Midnight - Live in America" with Jim on the cover gazing at a sparkler with Acid-Fried Eyes. 73 Minutes of live Doors, taken from Concerts in Bakersfield, Hollywood,Ca. to New York City, Boston, Detroit, Pitsburgh and Philadelphia, Pa in 1969 & 1970.

As the proud owner of many Bootleg CD's of Live Doors Concerts, some of this was already part of my collection, {Madison Square Garden, NYC & Boston, from 1970} but some of it was new to me [Bakersfield...BAKERSFIELD? who's the backing Band behind Jim? Buck Owens and The Buckaroos???}

Well, as it was I had stumbled onto something good here, a sampler of Primo Doors Shows from their last days on the road. 11 Minutes of: "Light My Fire", rare versions of: "St. James Infirmary" and "Been Down So Long", 16 minutes of darkness entitled; "The End", "Love Hides", "Crystal Ship" and "Back Door Man". Yeah Buddy, if the sound quality is decent, this is going to be a keeper!

Well, the sound quality is very good for field recordings of that time. These are Multi-Tracks, that were recorded for the Groups live record: "Absolutely Live" and are very pleasing when compared to Bootlegs of much lesser quality. This sampler was an introduction to the Bright Midnight Series of complete live concerts by The Doors.

This series is indeed for the Fans, and that said, it is a very cool way to take a little look-see into this World of Darkness & Madness...the World of The Doors. Try this out and decide for yourself, if you want to take that push over the cliff. "Bright Midnight"

A Doors Sampler

"Released in 2002, "Bright Midnight: Live in America" offered previously unissued 1969-70 recordings of The Doors in concert. Now that the complete shows are available, this disc serves as a tantalizing sampler of the Hollywood, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Detroit engagements. Along with the excellent sound quality are memorable versions of "Break On Through," "Five to One" and "Light My Fire." From an unvarnished standpoint, Jim Morrison's drunken interpretation of "Roadhouse Blues" tells you all you need to know about the group's wild and unpredictable Boston gig. Though derived from the same concert tapes, "Bright Midnight" remains a more satisfying Doors compilation than "Absolutely Live.""
