Old but Oh so good!

"I "found" this recording almost half a century ago when it was on LP. At the time ALL the singers were unknown to me. It is a complete joy and I have never heard a recording of this opera that matches it. While Carosio's voice is a bit thin compared to some other singers, the secure technique and musicality of the performance overshadow it. Monti is a gem! He is not well known here but he is great. Light, supple and convincing. As for Tito Gobbi, he just had the time of his life here. Last but not least the finest Dulcamara on records - no kidding. What is most important about this recording is that everyone is having so much fun. It just bubbles over with joy!!!"
