CD Reviews

Dont like country music generally, but I love it.

"Ok- so I dont buy much country music. Ive always liked Dolly's voice but I have never owned one of her albums. I have to say I am shocked how much I like this CD. Her version of Smokey Robinsons "Tracks of my Tears" is great. I think my favorite song on the album is "The Lonesomes". Her voice sounds great, and the material is very good also. Not alot of "TALENT" out there anymore. You will enjoy this if you are a true music lover. Havent stopped playing it since I got it."
Something for everyone

"Having recorded a few bluegrass albums over the past few years, Dolly attempted to get back to the country mainstream with this album. Predictably, country radio ignored the singles despite the fact that the very few stations that played the first single, "Better Get to Livin'" had a large number of listener requests. But even though country radio ignored this album, it still peaked at #2 on Billboard. This is a fantastic CD from the variety of the music all the way to the album artwork. The best track is clearly "Backwoods Barbie". A very country and simple song that tells the true story of Dolly's desired look. This could rank up there along with Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, etc. as a Dolly classic in the years to follow. Also excellent is "The Lonesomes", "Cologne", and "Somebody's Everything". Dolly also does a good cover version of "The Tracks of my Tears", and "Drives Me Crazy". Drives me Crazy is Dolly at her entertaining best. It may not be of the same quality as the title tune but it is very fun, witch is what it is intending to do. It would have made a great dance mix for Dolly. If you like to listen to an album with much variety this may be what you need. It has hardcore country, modern country, pop, mountain, and even a touch of Jazz. It's the side of Dolly I have always liked the most. A little bit of everything to satisfy any mood you may be in. You will not be disappointed. Plus, if you have any sense of humor you will find this some of the best album artwork you have ever seen."
