Arguably the BEST Diana Ross compilation!

""Anthology" covers Miss Ross's career from her solo debut in 1970 with Motown all the way up to a rather abrupt ending with 1981's "Endless Love" duet with Lionel Ritchie, as well as throwing in a number of bonus tracks that weren't hits but fans will adore. All of her Top 40 hits from that era are here including such signature songs as "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Touch Me In The Morning," "Love Hangover," "Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)," and "I'm Coming Out," as well as many lesser but well remembered hits like "The Boss," and "Good Morning Heartache." It's easy to write off Miss Ross today, but listening to the artistry she brings to these recordings her talent is undeniable. Vocally she brings a mix of vulnerability and drama to songs that require a deft touch lest they fall into parody or schmaltz. Listening to the vocals of something like "It's My Turn" you can tell she genuinely feels the emotion of the song and has lived it.



At 38 tracks there is something here for everyone including fans and casual listeners. As mentioned this compilation ends abruptly at 1981's "Endless Love" and misses many wonderful singles Miss Ross had after that time such as "Missing You," "Swept Away," and "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" which leaves this a rather incomplete anthology. As far as a great starting point for an overview of Miss Ross's career this is perhaps the BEST starting point. She continues to record and has released some fantastic recordings that have sadly been overlooked; perhaps there is an Anthology II in the wings.



There are many Diana Ross compilations out there, but this is arguably the best and most comprehensive of her solo career and worth tracking down (it is HARD to find!). Sadly these tracks were not re-mastered so the sound quality isn't as great as it should be. I would have LOVED to have had tracks from "The Wiz" included, but that's minor quibbling for a compilation this comprehensive.

". . .you will love this anthology. If you can ever FIND this anthology, please, get it! This collection is scarce so snatch it up if you come across it! The songs are beautiful, not only does it include all the favorites that we have grown to love over the decades, but there are also songs that you most likely have never heard before that you will fall in love with! 'Breath taking guy' is one that I can't believe isn't part of the 'best of' of Diana Ross and the Supremes. Also 'I want a guy' is one that I sing in the shower to this day. I am trying to get my hands on another copy desperately. If you are a collector of Motown or just beautiful oldies in general, you need to hear this anthology for yourself!"
