Synopsis

Album Description
Canadian version of 2002 live release includes one exclusive bonus track, 'Charmed Life' & the U.S. bonus track, 'Just The Way You Are' (Studio Version/Billy Joel cover). The first-ever live concert recording from Grammy winning vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, recorded at the Paris Olympia Theatre winter 2002. Here finally, captured in amazing audio quality, is an album showcasing the magic of Krall's concert performances. Krall & her band - perform some of the tunes from Krall's studio recordings, such as 'East of the Sun (West of the Moon)' & 'Devil May Care'. Joined by special guests John Pisano (acoustic guitar) & Paulinho DaCosta (percussion) for several tracks, including the Gershwin's 'S'wonderful'. The Orchestre Symphonique European, conducted by Alan Broadbent with special guest conductor Claus Ogerman, is featured on the upbeat 'Let's Fall in Love' & a haunting interpretation of 'I've Got You

I picked up a used DVD copy for next to nothing, never having heard a single song by Diana Krall. It sat unplayed for the longest time, waiting for a "jazz" mood to come upon me. When I put the DVD in to my really nice sounding home theatre setup, I gotta tell you, I was GLUED to the screen. Simply astonishing. I've done a lot of live sound work, so I can assure you what the engineers achieved here is simply incredible. I have a lot of live recordings, many very, very good. Well, this one is top of the list.

I know we're on CD Swap here, reviewing CD's, but I loved this outing so much, I got the CD on Swap, and now I can listen anywhere to this fabulous recording. The CD captures the sound quality just as well as the 5.1 DVD does. When you are listening or watching "Live...", really put your musical brain in gear... really listen, the sound they achieved on this is about as good as may be possible in a live recording.

So if you already have the CD, run, don't walk to get the DVD. If you have the DVD, get the CD to fill out your collection. If you have neither, what are you waiting for, this is terrific stuff.

As a side note, with "Live..." being my introduction to Ms. Krall, I did not stop there. I now own every one of her releases on CD. Although she has many that rival "Live...", I still put it top of list, it's that good.

Great Performance

"This album is worth getting even if you already have different versions of the same songs by Ms. Krall. Exceptionally good quality sound for a live album. As far as I know, this is the only album featuring Ms. Krall singing "A Case of You". Her version of that is extraordinary."
Love "Live in Paris"

"I recently downloaded several songs from this album. A truly fabulous collection -- possibly her best. Her voice is in great form, the songs move right along, her band is excellent. Krall herself is not only a fine singer, but a fine jazz pianist as well. Even the production work is very good -- no random crowd sounds which are often heard on live recordings. I play this music while I work, work out at the gym, walk outdoors, cook dinner. The perfect antidote to a gray winter's day in Chicago."
