CD Reviews

Live Clapton is the best Clapton
J. David Heath | Colorado | 12/25/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have had this masterpiece on vinyl for over 20 years and finally wore it out and went for the CD rather than start a search for a replacement LP. Anyone know why this is an import? The price doesn't faze me, but it seems odd. For those of you not old enough to remember that people used to write "Clapton is god" on walls, this album will enlighten you. He was the original rock guitar hero and still the best in my opinion. Along with "Live at the Fillmore" this album is packed with classics from Clapton's early days and gives a glimpse of his future foray into the Robert Johnson inspired blues albums like "From the Cradle". Clapton's playing stands out like a hooker in a convent. Crisp, clean, incredibly tight. Classic Eric Clapton. His live performances are the best in my book. So what if he doesn't banter with the crowd. I'm not there to hear him talk. Maybe the production values are not the best, but remember people, this was recorded a long time ago, probably on a reel to reel tape machine connected to the mixer board. Hell, the Fillmore album has to be almost 40 years old and it still sounds great. I was futunate to see Clapton in April 2007. Unlike some of the other dinosaur acts out there, he has not lost a lick. And now the technology available only makes him sound better. If you EVER get a chance to see Eric Clapton in concert, do it."
