Album Description 2008 reissue of Beyond Recognition, the third and final full length album by thrash metal band Defiance, released in 1992. This album was a departure from previous work. It is best described as "Progressive Thrash Metal" with more complex song structures, odd time signatures, numerous key and tempo changes plus technical riffs, drumming, even clean sections that often evoked jazz fusion. This newer, more distinctive style earned the band their biggest critical success to date, and many fans hail it as their finest work. The songs were the sort of speed thrash metal you found in the late 80's early 90's (almost like D.R.I. but mixed with something a little more metal) There's a song, it was either the last song on the first side of the tape or first song on the second side of the tape that was just classical guitar instrumental. Almost like Spanish guitar mixed with metal. it's on of the most astounding pieces of guitar metal work I've heard. very beautiful." The vocals are very close to Chuck Billy and they even use Alice in Chains style vocal harmonies. Musically they are very proficent. Guitars are heavy and tight. Solos right on. Drums tight as can be and creative. Reminds me of ...And Justice for All (one of metallica's best) writing and production. Should own this one if you are into classic thrash!"
