Synopsis

Amazon.com
This record is yet another in a long line of soundtracks to be "musically supervised" by the stellar staff of California radio station KCRW. A DJ at the station, Tricia Halloran is the baby of the bunch, an indie-rock kid with a late-night show featuring bands such as those on this soundtrack. For the most part, her song choices here fall into three categories: bands that sound like the Beatles; bands that sound like (or are) Guided by Voices sounding like the Beatles; and Rebar, who contribute a terrible cover of "Legalize It," the title track of reggae giant Peter Tosh's first post-Wailers solo album. That the Dean Quixote soundtrack was released on spinArt must have equally to do with mysterious movie-industry politics and the fact that the Elephant 6 Recording Company seems to be missing in action, as many of the album's contributors have been formally associated with that lo-fi collective or sound as if they should be. Envision a radio show celebrating the works and influences of members of E6, then add an awful band that's owed a favor by the DJ, and this soundtrack will play in your mind. --Sarah A. Sternau

(5 out of 5 stars)

"So, you probably have not seen the movie and have no clue what it is about. Yeah, me either, but I do know that this CD never leaves my stereo. It is a perfect mix and an essential for any indie fan. Just listen to it and you will completely understand! You definately don't want to pass this one up."
