"Broken Spell" Holds You Spellbound

""Broken Spell" by David Halley is a unknown CD gem recorded in the early '90's. I don't know anything about this folk-rocker, and never heard of him since. Yet I bought this CD after hearing just a few songs played in a HEARS MUSIC store.
The acoustic and electric guitars have incredible fingerwork, and piano & organ melodies are catchy. The band definately supports his Roger McGuinn-like vocals.
There are great lyrics jabbing at Fundamentalist Christianity in the opening song, "Sky":
Woke up this morning, got a witness,
A homemade soldier in a holy war,
Just doin' the hurt for some spiritual fitness,
American goose-step door-to-door. The love-gone-sour songs are honest...not overly sentimental.
I recommend the first six songs and "Man of Steel". The other three are simply average. Well, you can't be perfect."
