Traditonal Country Wins Again
G. Sawaged | 01/29/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Chalk up a win for traditional country music as Daryle Singeltary gives us 10 songs from the heart and in the traditional country production. Most people might already be familiar with "Too Much Fun", "I Let Her Lie" and "Low Expectations" as radio played two of those songs into the top 10 and the latter into the top 20. What most people probably don't know is that there are 7 other songs on here that are just as strong. Darlye Singeltary puts heart and soul into each song on this collection with plenty of steel guitatr and fiddle to go around. "My Heart's Too Broke (To Pay Attention)" is a clever play on words that finds Singeltary trying to shake a newly lost love memory while out on the town. "Ordinary Heroes" pays tribute ot the working man while Singeltary wishes for the day an ordinary person makes the news instead of some "madman running loose." One of Singeltary's biggest influences contributes a tune called "There's a Cold Spell Moving In." The Randy Travis tune speaks of the chill in ones heart as a loved one calls it quits and moves out. Singeltary's voice wraps around this song and leads you to believe that he's been in this situation before. Singeltary's other main influences (George Jones and Keith Whitley) can be heard loud and clear as well on this excellent 10 song set. If your a fan of real country music and not a fan of the pop music they try to pass off as country and shove down your throat, you'll love this album by Daryle Singeltary."
True country

"A great album with the good old traditional sound. Daryle Singletary has a great voice in the style of George Jones. He's way too underated...I don't hear hardly enough of him on country radio. And it's too bad...he's a great singer, and every song on here is excellent. The booklet includes all lyrics and a few photos. Recommended for all lovers of country music."
