"With only three main studio albums, the French house duo Daft Punk releases a compilation album to remind us of their greatest strength--massive singles. And indeed, the hits are here. "Da Funk," "Around the World," "Technologic," and the irresistible "One More Time" are all included, and they pack just as much punch as they did several years ago. Other classics in the Daft Punk community like "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," and "Robot Rock" may never have gotten quite the level of widespread attention of the former but are equally as good (as Kanye West and Chris Brown came to realize).



Heavy emphasis is placed on debut album Homework with six song selections, whereas the other two albums--and the remix section at the end of the album--receive only three spots each. But Homework was probably their most beloved and memorable album, even if Discovery had the pop hits (two of which, "Aerodynamic" and "Digital Love," are oddly missing) and Human After All had its moments. The remixes at the end, particularly "Mothership Reconnection," are fairly good, though they may be forgettable to the casual listener.



Word for the wise: Daft Punk has worked their magic through 5+ minute, repetitive but driving house music. So for the dance music lover, this is a must-have greatest hits package. Just know what you're getting into. If you simply like a couple of the popular songs on here and don't really do dance music much, giving the album an entire listen may be boring if not impossible. But for the rest of us, this should keep our batteries charged long after the humans are in bed. (2006, Virgin)"

Just Buy Their Full Lengths..

"Daft Punk are a great electronic group who have taken their influences and combined them into some truly trend-setting albums. Though, if you subtract the live albums, the bootlegs, Daft Club *shudder*, and the anime movie.. all you've got is three studio albums. Just three. And the first two are full masterpieces, while Human After All is more or less tolerable depending on the listener. Definitely more of a Kraftwerk and Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" influence than the other two LPs.



Anyway, you're looking at 30+ tracks they've produced that are more than worth owning.. yet they feel the need for a compilation album? Hopefully it wasn't their idea, probably some greedy music execs who realized they couldn't ride out the fumes of Discovery for much longer. Still, I wouldn't even suggest this cd for Daft Punk newbies as they'd have more fun overall with Discovery. I mean, heck, Face to Face isn't even on here and that's probably their greatest song ever! They could have easily switched Face to Face out with Something About Us since the latter isn't the greatest track.



You owe it to Daft Punk, and yourself, to just buy their three proper albums, decide which songs you like or not, and make your own compilation. It's easy enough to buy the 'rare' tracks later on off of itunes if you really feel the need to further butcher the idea that compact discs and Vinyl are outdated. (I'll never give up my CD's NEVER!)
