"German power metallers Crystallion returned in 2008 with Hattin, a concept album about the Templar Knights and one of their legendary battles. If you think that a German power metal band taking on the Templar theme is going to sound like a predictable cross between Helloween and Hammerfall, well...OK, that's exactly what Hattin sounds like.



Their sound may be predictable, but Crystallion is also very professional. They deliver well-written, well-executed melodic power metal that is on par with the latest offerings by Dionysus, Rhapsody of Fire, or Heavenly. Gorgeous melodies, rousing choruses, and Thomas Strubler's crystal clear voice make Crystallion's sound fit right in with the melodic power metal genre.



I tend to prefer power metal bands that break from the conventional approach, but I have to admit there are times when only a hyper-melodic, mighty warrior power metal album will do, and that's where Hattin fits nicely. If you have an insatiable appetite for all things power metal, particularly power metal that follows in Helloween and Hammerfall's footsteps, chances are you'll love this album.
