CD Reviews

Yes, She is--The World's Sweetheart

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Again, the powers that be saw fit to release yet another version of several existing CDs with different titles and covers. With all the Connie Francis material available and ready to be released, yet locked tightly in the vaults, it is now time to start releasing something more than her numerous hits and the same often repeated LP tracks. Here we have the same package but this time on two discs. I know the economy is bad and music is a business out to make money, but this overly cautious fixation with releasing the same material time after time is getting monotonous. And to top it off--many imports are released on small inexpensive labels and the lack of quality shows--blatantly so. This is not to say this set has terrible sonics. They are actually quite good. But for the learned fans, this is just another reissue of a reissue. For the music lover and nostalgia buff (nostalgia is big business), then you get a nice blend of hits and early Connie Francis LP cuts. Connie always preferred her album work over her mega selling hits. They are sophisticated standards that never age with time. Her LP work made her the only rock n roll singer that had a devoted teenybopper following, as well as their parents. This iconic superstar deserves better and so do the buyers who have not heard some of her really fine work that rarely appears on disc, and much of it never has."
