The String Sextet in D Major, Opus 10, was written during 1914-1915 when Korngold was seventeen. Despite the youth of its composer, the work is amazingly sophisticated, inventive and accomplished. While Frank Bridge's fame rests on his being the teacher of Benjamin Britten, his own work, particularly his chamber music, stands on its own. Governing all in Bridge's music is an elegance of form and a lyricism that has its dark moments. The String Sextet in E-Flat Major reflects these attributes.
