CD Reviews

This is as cool as the town from which it comes - Taos, NM!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tapping what turns out to be a vast talent pool in Taos, New Mexico, Revolution Records has compiled a lively compilation disc as compelling as it is diverse. From Michael Hearne's poignant "The Songwriter" (a song Nashville should have embraced long ago) to newcomer Tony Schueller's strong and plaintive "Talk to Me," the Revolution Collection - Taos is almost as unique as the charming town of Taos itself. Jenny Bird's "Dirt" celebrates the earth and all its practical and aesthetic attributes and Mary Duwe shows off exceptional lyrical skills on "Said Venus to the Moon." Love, at its most compelling (let's face it), is best when anticipation saturates the mind and both Carl Struck and Bogey channel that convincingly on their respective offerings. Other standouts include Kim and the Caballeros, who manage to make heartbreak danceable on "When You Went Away," and the simply lovely "Shine" from the strong voice of Les Lokey. It's tempting to define this CD as a taste of Taos, which it is, but the songs and performances on the The Revolution Collection - Taos are so good they translate anywhere. - Michael Patricks"
