CD Reviews

Good mid-80s speed metal
D. K. Malone | earth | 11/23/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Wow, I never thought I'd live to see the day this was re-released. This was originally released back in the mid-80s on Alchemy Records, a label from Northern California that released some of my favorites of the time, like RKL's 'Rock & Roll Nightmare', Neurosis' debut album 'Pain of Mind', the Melvins' debut album 'Gluey Porch Treatments', Guillotine's 'Bring Down the Curtain', Virulence's 'If This Is a Dream', and a couple of albums by Sacrilege BC which I liked. This album was actually probably my least favorite of the Alchemy releases that I heard. But it's cool to hear it again now, 20 years later. It's Bay Area crossover with more roots in the hardcore punk side of the line than the metal side. Melvins fans might be interested because Clown Alley's bassist was Lori Black a.k.a. Lorax and the guitarist was Mark Deutrom. Some extras have been thrown onto this reissue, some live tracks, and an interview. Plus it's remastered. My only complaint is that the original version of the cover looked better. I'm pretty sure this is the same piece of artwork, but it looks like they tried to make it sepia tone instead of gray scale and ended up ruining it in the process."
