CD Reviews

Fantastic comp
Ryan Kemp | bountiful Utah | 08/29/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hands down this comp rocks. Christopher Lawrence is for serious techno/trance listeners though. You know people who don't think crystal method and dirty Vegas rock. Christopher Lawrence is the real deal people. Who knows how to make an awesome CD. Every single CD he has every put out is top of the line. They are the epitimy sweet. If your looking to impress your friends it would be prudent that you purchase this and all of his CDs. I'm not kidding people in my opinion he is the best. Don't expect me to call him a god though. That has to be the dumbest most weak minded thing a person can do is label a DJ a god. Anyways that's off on another tangent.I own way to much techno and trance CDs than I want to admit. So I am not trying to boast of myself but I do want to tell you that I have a pretty darn good idea what DJs to invest in and who not to touch with anothers, well you all know the rest of that joke. I'd put all my stock in cl's albums. I get more excited about his upcoming albums than any other DJ. I've been doing this a long time and cl isn't going anywhere soon if he continues to put out quality albums like this. buy this album then rise, hook recordings, temptation, trilogy, exposure 4, around the world, united states of trance, all or nothing, un-hooked the hook sessions, subculture 01, and gatecrasher live in Moscow. You can't go wrong with these albums. Man are you still reading this? Go buy this album and all the rest of his stuff already."
Quality and consistent; classic techno

"I do own quite a few Christopher Lawrence CD's, even though I wouldn't call him my all-time favorite. The reason I own so many of his albums is because he is consistent in delivering quality work, and this album is no exception. When I go to the CD store and I have trouble finding anything recognizably good, I know I can always count on Chris Lawrence to not disappoint me. I am familiar with his style and it works for me... nothing wrong with familar territory. I would include "Unfold 2" along with "United States of Trance" and "Trilogy" as his three best albums. The subtle crudeness of this album keeps it from being as smooth and divine as the great albums of Armin Van Buuren and Hybrid, but this also gives it an edge and sets it apart from the typical feminine trance anthems people have grown so familiar with. This album is a balance between progressive trance and classic techno, and the second disc is especially energetic and suspenseful. It is not especially groundbreaking compared to albums like Hybrid's "Wide Angle" or Deepsky's "In Silico", but it is hi-tech enough to keep the listener interested. I admit there are times when the mix drags on, becoming forgettable and maybe even a little monotonous, but there are also peak moments when the beat stands out and kicks you in the gut or a cool synth hook reclaims your attention. While "Unfold 2" doesn't have quite as much replay value as some of my other favorite albums, it is more than good enough to hold its own and that makes it a keeper."
Great mix set! Disc One is Superb!!

"2008 was awesome because we got two mix-sets with two cds each within just months from Mr. Lawrence! Well, "Two Tribes" had one disc that actually was John 00 Fleming, but both DJs and CDs are excellent!

The first disc is the best with an Electro sound. Some amazing tracks in there as well from Audio Junkies, Glenn Frantz, FM Radio Gods, Georgia Vs. the Stimulator, Matt Saunders, but really the whole disc is awesome!

The second disc is more classic Christopher Lawrence, but is not nearly as strong as his set on "Global Trance Grooves: Two Tribes." His disc on that set is absolutely phenomenal!! This second disc on "Unfold" goes from track to track with no song really leaping out at you, but I did love the sample from "Alien vs. Predator" on "Illegal Hardware" by Mad Contrabender.

One thing about Christopher Lawrence is his style has stayed consistent since 1997's "Rise." You know what to expect from him. His choice of mainly unknown/underground mixes is what makes him so unique, and one of the top DJs in the world.

Pick this set up for sure, and I think 2009 will be a big year for Christopher as well. I have heard another artist album possibly this year, and hopefully more CD mixes!

Check out for sure: George Acosta, TRANCE WORLD 4 (amazing, amazing set mixed by John O'Callaghan!!) Solarstone, The Thrillseekers"
