'folk/pop' singer around-- her excellent alto voice is really memorable.While often 'lumped' in the folk categorfy, her albums, especially recent ones like this and last, AN EQUAL LOVE, are much more pop in character. That's not a criticism: she has moved thoughtfully in this direction. On this one, a few of the songs are perhaps a little weak lyricvally, but more than made up for by the singing-- especially maybe on her version of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." In some ways, I still slightly prefer the more 'folk rock' arrangements on some of her other albums & the duos with Clive Gregson, but this is really worthwhile for the wonderful singing I think." |
