"You can get this incredible LP as a CD with half another (Charlie Rose's half of a split Lp he made with Seldon Powell on Bethlehem called "We Paid Our Dues").the first CBS press was lousy sound but second one now available is better.If you have a Turntable trying to find the Classic Records re-issue with worth every penny (I would pay $50 easy but I have a open and sealed copy).So sound here on this import might be better but it's CD so I would say get the cheaper 1.5 LP CD or find the re-issue (and original of this great Lp will cost $300+ but I have compared excellent sounding Epic Original and the Classic is so close you can't tell difference-Epic,Phillips,and very few others made great sounding LP in 50's-60's-love RVG for what he did on Blue Note and Prestige but only in mono-stereo was done much better by other engineers on some labels including Epic).If you have to have a Japan Press that MIGHT be better than the music is incredible played by Billy Gardner on Keys (his first session),Peck Morrison on Bass,and Dave Bailey on Drums playing:

The cuts "When Sunny Get's Blue""Blue Moon","You Don't Know What Love Is" are on extended CD with Gildo Mahones,Reggie Workman and Art Taylor without a doubt a more impressive group.But most material is on "Yeah!" (6 cuts not just three) and both sessions are great.



Charlie Rouse's legacy was subsumed as Monk's last and longest serving Tenor player but his work with others given his excellent middleweight tone and phrasing is uniformally superb -if you like Third Stream "The Jazz Modes" or even better with his last group "Sphere" with Kenny Barron,Buster Williams and Ben Riley who also was Drummer in Monk's last group) he is truly an "Unsung Hero".Not much in his catalog as sideman or leader is Chaff it all Golden Wheat.

Dig (I'd just do it with the 1.5 "Unsung Hero" as long as it's not the original CBS version.
