CD ReviewsExceptional Choral Writing and Text Setting Carlyle Sharpe | 11/23/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Charles Fussell truly understands the meaning of good vocal writing from both the choral and solo viewpoints. His setting of the Walt Whitman text is carefully crafted, yielding a very moving and poignant work in Specimen Days. I was present at both the Philadelphia world premiere of this work and the Boston premiere (where this CD was recorded) and this piece was warmly and emotionally accepted with standing ovations.
It is very refreshing to encounter a new work which embraces the choral tradition so well. " |
