"I tripped across a disk of Symphonies by this 19th century Frenchwoman a few months and was captivated by their strength (one might say muscle!) and integrity. This disk adds another pleasing chapter to this discovery.The three chamber pieces on this disk are all charming and well-wrought. Farrenc uses the winds gracefully and blends them well--not always an easy task. While none of these pieces attempts to storm the heavens the way her symphonies do, all contain pleasing memorable melodies developed effectively. The performances are sprightly and well played.If you haven't met this composer, this disk is a great place to start. I guarantee you'll feel a little bit happier when its hearly 75 minutes are up."
